We’re raising funds for a cold room to keep wild meat local, cut delivery miles, reduce waste, and grow our sustainable community butcher.
At Ethical Game, we’re passionate about providing truly sustainable, 100% wild, locally sourced meat — but to keep growing responsibly, we need your help. We’re raising funds to build a dedicated cold room at our Stirchley base.
Right now, limited cold storage means we have to move meat quickly and make frequent smaller deliveries, increasing road miles and limiting how many people we can serve. A purpose-built cold room will allow us to store more game safely on-site, reduce transport emissions, and supply more local households, restaurants, and community partners with ethical, traceable meat. For the first year ever our business has expanded to take on orders every single week and that means more driving. With a big enough cold room we would be able to remove 89 – 232 miles (13,647 – 56,696 co2) a month from our deerliveries.
Importantly, this new facility will also support local deer stalkers and hunters who don’t have access to their own chilling infrastructure. Many of these small-scale, responsible stalkers are unable to sell perfectly good venison because they lack the means to store it safely at the correct temperature. Our cold room will provide a reliable, local outlet where they can bring their deer quickly after culling, ensuring the meat is properly chilled, traceable, and fit for sale — turning potential waste into high-quality, sustainable food.
This project isn’t just about infrastructure — it’s about strengthening our community roots. By keeping processing and storage local, we can support nearby hunters, reduce waste, and make wild, sustainable meat more accessible to people across Birmingham and beyond.
